-Maro Engel is clinging to a 21-point championship lead that's already changed hands eight times this season, and with Nicki Thiim, Lucas Auer, and Thomas Preining are all lurking, the Green Hell could easily produce swing number nine.

-Alex Palou is cruising with a 110-point cushion and five races left, but the bigger headline is the venue: IndyCar makes its first-ever start on Markham's brand-new street circuit, closing the book on nearly four decades of racing at Toronto's Exhibition Place.

Gran Turismo World Series – Tokyo
• Race: Saturday, August 15 at 11:00 AM EST - Racer
-Less horsepower, same nerves. The world's best sim racers touch down in Tokyo to remind everyone you don't need 800 real horses to make grown men sweat through their shirts.

NASCAR Cup Series – Cook Out 400 @ Richmond Raceway
• Race: Saturday, August 15 at 7:00 PM EST - USA Network
-Denny Hamlin's still out front, but Ty Gibbs has quietly climbed to second, tying a career high, while Christopher Bell keeps chasing his first win of the year after seven runner-up finishes. With just three races left before the playoff field locks in, the bubble is pure chaos.

Nürburgring Nordschleife

The Nürburgring Nordschleife has been scaring drivers since 1927, and it's earned every bit of its "Green Hell" reputation. The nickname comes from three-time F1 champion Jackie Stewart, who coined it after winning the fog-and-rain-soaked 1968 German Grand Prix by more than four minutes, a margin that still sounds fake today. At 20.8 kilometers long with more than 70 corners and over 300 meters of elevation change, the Nordschleife plays more like a mountain road that occasionally remembers it's a racetrack.

Richmond Raceway

Before it hosted stock cars, Richmond Raceway's plot of land belonged to a farm called Strawberry Hill, which is a much gentler origin story than you'd expect for a track nicknamed the "Action Track." The venue's first race came in 1946 on a half-mile dirt oval, won by open-wheel legend Ted Horn, and NASCAR didn't show up until 1953, when Lee Petty (yes, that Petty family) took the win on the same dirt surface.

The track got paved in 1968 and then reshaped entirely before the 1988 season into the 0.75-mile D-shaped oval drivers still fight over today. That multi-groove layout is exactly why Richmond has built a reputation as one of the best short tracks on the schedule: there's enough real estate for drivers to run three-wide and actually make it stick, which is rarer than it sounds on a track this small.

See you all next week and thanks for checkin in!
